NTDC boss seeks media support on domestic tourism promotion

The Director-General, Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation (NTDC), Mrs. Sally Mbanefo has stressed the needs to promote and inscribe the name of Nigeria among the countries in Africa thriving in the areas of domestic tourism.

This was disclosed by Mrs. Sally Mbanefo at a media parley with members of the Association of Nigerian Journalists and Writers of Travel and Tourism (ANJET) at the NTDC Zonal office, Ikeja, Lagos recently.

Mbanefo disclosed that her three formulated strategies to take the tourism sector to the next level includes; rebuilding of the NTDC, growing the tourism value change in Nigeria and re-inventing the tourism sector in Nigeria.

The NTDC chief executive hinted that in her less than 90 days in office, she has successfully met with commissioners for tourism in about 15 states across the country, various companies and reputable stakeholders to seek for partnerships on domestic tourism advancement in Nigeria.

"It is encouraging to inform you that some of our proposals and meetings have been yielding positives results. Heritage Bank and ABC Transport Company recently signed memorandum of understandings (MoU) with NTDC", Mbanefo said.

To uplift her domestic tourism agenda, Mrs. Sally Mbanefo promised to visit Nigeria embassies in various foreign countries to appeal to the Ambassadors on the prompt issuance of tourist visas for potential tourists.

"This will encourage and accord foreign tourists the opportunity to experience the high taste of hospitality and feel the wonders of nature in various destinations in Nigeria", Mbanefo said.

Mbanefo pleaded and seeks for support from the media to champion her course on domestic tourism promotion. "Your experience in the tourism sector and positive impacts to achieve the desired results cannot be over emphasized", she said.

The NTDC boss highlighted her strongly believes that by the time she will be leaving the apex tourism corporation, it will be with tremendous and landmark achievements.

Also, she reiterates the facts that her appointment as the director-general of the corporation is to consolidate on the success of her predecessor, Otunba Olusegun Runsewe.

Present at the media forum are Mr. Obafemi Ilesanmi, Deputy Director, Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation, Mr. Tope Ogbeni-Awe, Chief Executive Officer, Topcomm PR Concept & Events Ltd, Mr. Ikechi Uko, Chief Executive Officer, Akwaaba African Travel Market, senior officers at NTDC Zonal office among others.
