2013 World Tourism Day celebration, ANJET partners La Campagne Tropicana

The Association of Nigerian Journalists and Writers of Travel and Tourism (ANJET) and La Campagne Tropicana Group are partnering to organise the 2013 World Tourism Day (WTD).

The event will hold at the La Campagne Beach Resort, Ikegun, Lagos State. This is in line with the theme for this year's celebration: "Tourism and Water: Protecting our Common Future".

The theme this year highlights tourism's role in water access and shines a spotlight on the actions currently being taken by the sector in order to contribute to a more sustainable water future, as well as the challenges ahead.

Activities marking the WTD in La Campagne Tropicana will include talks on environmental sustainability and tourism. The high-point of activities at the event will be Message in a Bottle that will be sent through the ocean canvassing for a more a concerted efforts by all in protecting the environment.

According to a release from ANJET, La Campagne Tropicana Resort as the choice to celebrate the tourism day is to highlight the quest for sustainability and best practices in the management of resorts and other eco-tourist sites and destinations the country.

Speaking on the celebration of WTD and Nigeria's quest to be among the top destinations in Africa, the President of La Campagne Tropicana Group and initiator of Motherland Beckons,
Otunba Wanle Akinboboye said the celebration would once again offer the country the opportunity for a circumspective reflection on efforts so far made in tourism in Nigeria and the need to do more.

Akinboboye re-echoed the assertion that tourism is capable of surpassing oil in revenue generation for the Nigeria.

The annual tourism day is celebrated world wide to foster awareness among the international community of the importance of tourism and its social, cultural, political and economic value.

The event also seeks to address the global challenges outlined in the UN Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and highlight the tourism sector's contribution in reaching these goals.
