Abuja Bantaba, educating, stirring, marketing platform for tourism stakeholders

Abuja Bantaba, the one-day speed dating event for the travel and tourism stakeholders is fast becoming a must-attend event for the travel, tourism and hospitality professionals.

The 3rd edition of Abuja Bantaba held at the prestigious Ladi Kwali Hall of Sheraton Abuja Hotels on Friday, 5th July, 2013 embraces Ghanians, Zimbabweans, Gambians among numerous Nigerians as participants.

In her speech while declaring the event opened, Gambia High Commissioner in Nigeria, Her Excellency, Angela Kolley said "The introduction of Abuja Bantaba by the organiser is highly commendable, as this is another channel of championing the course of tourism promotion".

Ambassador Kolley stressed further on the need for the African countries to encourage one another and benefits from the global opportunities in the tourism for the development of the continent.

The Abuja Bantaba, was initiated by the organiser of Akwaaba African Travel Market (AfTM), as a prelude to the yearly edition of the AFTM aimed at reaching mostly the people in the Federal Capital Territory and Northern Nigeria and keep abreast of the latest developments in the travel, tourism and hospitality industry.

The platform provided an opportunity for the tourism stakeholders to be updated through the various presentations and lectures delivered at the forum.

The Abuja Bantaba theme, "What does the Nigerian Traveller Want" was an eye opener to all the delegates as the speakers X-rayed their respective topics during their presentations.

Among the notable, experienced and professionals who attended the educative forum as guest speakers are Hon. KGB Oguakwa, former Chairman of the House of Representative Committee on Culture and Tourism, Engineer Eniofiok Ekong, President, Hotel Owners Forum Abuja (HOFA), Barrister Chuka Agbu (SAN), Leading Tourism Lawyer (Lexavier Associates), Uloma Egbuna, Chief Executive Officer, Tour Brokers International (TBI) and Mr. Femi Adefope, Chairman, HRG and an Icon in the travel industry.

The event also provided an opportunity for the stakeholders in the tourism business to meet face-to-face with potential buyers, sellers and trade partners in the travel, hotels, airlines, tours, destinations and tourism businesses.

After the scintillating presentations by the speakers, the electrifying Travellers Awards session followed as the representatives of the organisations and the states concerned on the 7 Natural Wonders of Nigeria are presented with their awards.

The 7 Natural Wonders of Nigeria winners are Ikogosi Warm and Cold Springs in Ekiti State, Ogbunike Cave in Anambra State, Mambilla Plateau (Gashaka Gumti Park) in Taraba State, Yankari Game Reserve in Bauchi State, Owu Falls in Kwara State, Confluence of River Niger and Benue at Lokoja, Kogi State and Farin Ruwa Falls in Nassarawa State.

Hon. Joe Martins Uzodike, Anambra State Commissioner of Information & Strategy who received the award for Ogbunike Cave commended the laudable vision of the organiser in choosing the 7 Natural Wonders of Nigeria without sentiment.

Uzodike reiterates that the state government will not relent in keeping the Ogbunike Cave flag flying in the tourism world.

In her remark, Chief (Mrs.) Ronke Okusanya, Commissioner for Art, Culture & Tourism, Ekiti State, who received the award for Ikogosi Cold & Warm Spring said the positive impacts of the governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi who strongly believes in tourism development in Ekiti will propel the state forward as Ikogosi Cold & Warm Spring has been recently upgraded with additional 100 rooms for tourists delight.

The award for the 'Best Event Centre in Abuja' won by Sheraton Abuja Hotel was received by Mr. Ayo Anjorin, the acting Resident Manager, Sheraton Abuja Hotel.

Speaking shortly after the award presentation, Anjorin said, "This achievement would not have been possible without zeal and the positive impacts of the Sheraton Abuja Hotel, general manager, Mr. Boris Bornman"

"The high level of dedication, commitment and the good spirit of team work among the entire workforce of our hotel cannot be over emphasised as a positive factor to the award", Anjorin said.
