London tourism drive launched

A new GBP600,000 drive to boost tourism in capital has been launched by the mayor of London.

The money will fund dedicated campaigns and promotional activity over the next two year, through a newly established Domestic Tourism Consortium, to address the decline in UK visitors.

In 2017, 32 million tourists visited the capital for more than one day, generating almost GBP26bn and supporting 700,000, according to City Hall.

International visits to London have increased during each of the past five years, while the number of visitors from around the UK has also declined.

The consortium will be led by London & Partners (L&P) which currently promotes London internationally.

Sadiq Khan, said: "Tourism is of huge value to our economy, and domestic tourists tend to spend more than international visitors.

|So it is important that we take action to boost the number of visitors to London from around the UK."
