Ethiopian Airlines, the leading, fast growing and the largest cargo operator in Africa, is pleased to announce that it has won "The Rising Star Carrier of the Year Award" on Payload Asia Awards 2015 on a gala dinner attended by more than 250 members of the air cargo fraternity from around the globe on October 15, 2015 at Crowne Plaza Changi Airport, Singapore.

Payload Asia 2015 is aimed at Celebrating Excellence in the Air Cargo Industry and Ethiopian Airlines has won on both Industry and Customer Choice Awards where over 76 companies were nominated with over 18,000 online votes cast for 22 awards in the Customer Choice Awards. All results, both on Customer and Industry Choice, were audited by independent auditing firm.

Mr. Fitsum Abady, MD Ethiopian Cargo Services, remarked while receiving the award, "It is a great honor to receive 'The Rising Star Carrier of the Year Award'. This recognition is a testimony of our continuous effort to best meet the high expectation of our customers and I take this opportunity to thank our Cargo team for their hard work and our Global Cargo Customers and the executive management for their consistent support.

As one of the four pillars of our vision 2025 strategic road map, we have been investing millions of dollars on our Ethiopian Cargo Services. We operate the best freighter aircraft in the world, the B777-200 LR freighters; expanding our cargo destinations across the globe; building one of the largest cargo terminals in the world with 1.2 million annual capacity; and automating our entire cargo business process with one of the best Cargo IT systems (SITA Champ Cargo Spot) with the aim of providing one of the most efficient air cargo services within, to and from Africa."

Ethiopian Cargo, the largest cargo operator in Africa, currently uplifts 329,000 tons of cargo annually and flies to 29 freighter destinations in Africa, the Middle East, Asia and Europe using 7 dedicated freighters, including five B777-200 LRF and two B757F. The 6th B777-200 LR freighter will be arriving at Addis Ababa on the 22nd of October 2015.

Ethiopian Cargo Services is moving to a completely paperless environment and is using latest technologies for data, information and market intelligence with 100% e-AWB (Electronic Air Way Bill) from its hub (Addis Ababa) and recorded 54.7% international e-AWB penetration while industry average is only 31.7% per IATA e-AWB penetration report of August 2015.

By 2025, Ethiopian Cargo plans to uplift over 820,000 tons per year by operating to 37 freighter destinations across 5 continents using 19 dedicated cargo aircraft.
